First Year Experience

From the moment you are admitted to Louisiana Tech and step foot on campus for Orientation, your First Year Experience begins. Through Orientation, you have the opportunity to meet and get to know other incoming students with the support of our Orientation Student Leaders. Think: a built in friend who has already been through what you are just now starting. At Orientation, you will be immersed into the culture and traditions of Louisiana Tech as we welcome you home for the next four years.

Orientation is only the beginning for you at Louisiana Tech. As you move on campus and get ready for the first day of classes, we have an engaging and exciting week planned for you at Welcome Week. Get a BIG Tech welcome as the Band of Pride performs for you and welcomes you into the fold.

Every first-time, incoming student is required to take our FYE 100 class; a class dedicated to helping you smoothly transition into college.

FYE or our First Year Experience Program, they're responsible for basically a class for incoming freshmen. And what they do is just help high school kids get acquainted to college. They want them to see what's going on, on campus. What's going on around Ruston? And they do a very good job of integrating those new high school students into the Tech family. I'm a Blue Fire mentor. And that's a program that Louisiana Tech has, where they put older students into the FYE classes to help with the transition into college.

Aside from having your Blue Fire mentor through FYE, you will also have the opportunity to go through Welcome Week. Welcome Week is so much fun, you'll get to meet so many cool people in different organizations. It's a full week of just parties and fun to some new people on campus.

The Financial Aid Office has a healthy task, but they do a really great job of making sure they're working with students and communicating with students to ensure that the financial opportunities that they are awarded are being given to them. Orientation is a fantastic program that we have for the incoming students. It really integrates the students into Louisiana Tech in the three day program that it has, and that's what makes it so great is that you really get fully immersed just within three days of the summer into what Louisiana Tech is.
