City of Ruston

Louisiana Tech and the City of Ruston work together to form a well-connected and inviting community. You have everything you need in Ruston, Louisiana. If you want to take advantage of all that Mother Nature has to offer and would like to go biking, hiking, camping, kayaking, fishing, or just for a walk, check out Rock Island Greenway, Lincoln Parish Park, or Hideaway Park.

Ruston’s downtown is filled with great restaurants that are sure to be a part of your Friday or Saturday night plans. Maybe you’re looking for a good cup of coffee and a place to study. Check out Railway or The Depot, just to name a couple places.

Whatever your interest, there’s a place for you at Louisiana Tech and in Ruston.

Ruston is a sweet little town in North Louisiana. It is just the right size of being really small but having a good community size. And so I just really loved the balance between being a college town. But being a town that is full of families and just a great community.

I come from a bigger city, where crime has been a an issue, and when I got to Ruston, I realized that the statistics of us being the fifth safest city in the state of Louisiana.

Every summer we have our freshman orientation. The first event is our Wednesday night Dog Days of Summer. That happens downtown, we have a dinner with the mayor, the parents do, and then we do a scavenger hunt downtown with the kids. So it really does connect the city to the university.

The beauty of campus and the historic downtown is you can walk on the walkway from campus, and within 10 minutes, you're in historic downtown.

So if you're outdoorsy like myself, there's plenty of options for you. If you're big into biking or running outside, you can do the Rock Island Greenway, which is something that's very new to the community. We also have Lincoln Parish Park, which has you know, water features, so if you're you know, wanting to kayak or anything like that or camp, you know, that is an option as well, but there's plenty of chances to, you know, visit the sportsman's paradise here in Ruston.
