Diversity/Inclusion

At Louisiana Tech, we seek to create an inclusive environment through diversity of race, gender, thought, and experience. Everyone in our community works to make each individual feel welcomed and at home.

When asked about their experiences at Louisiana Tech, our International students jumped on the opportunity to share:

“Int’l students at LATech are very closely connected in a way that is not true for other universities.” – Shailendra, Nepali Student Ambassador

“What I will miss most about Louisiana Tech when I graduate, is the people. The friends and community.” – Nirjala, Int’l Student Association officer

“When there’s something going on, we know everyone is invited. We dance, we sing, we share food and music.” – Shakya, former Sri Lankan Student Ambassador and Louisiana Tech graduate

When I first visited campus, I actually had the opportunity to visit the campus twice. And both times I fell in love with the campus. And everyone was so nice. So I'm originally from Texas in the DFW area. I decided to come to Louisiana Tech because it was still close enough actually for it to be out of state. And also the scholarships that they were able to offer me were great as well. So I could continue my education here.

We have what we call the Office of Multicultural Affairs. It's kind of a safe space for minorities, whether it be African American, Hispanic American, the LGBTQ community, but everyone's welcome. Actual office and coordinators are there from eight to five. And student workers are there from eight to eight, normally during the week.

I guess the minority community here, they would have Wildin' Out Wednesdays, where people could come or the Black Student Union would be able to come together and play music in the quad. And that was something I didn't think I'd expect here.

I'll definitely miss the friends I've made on campus. Ever since day one I've been here, the community that has kind of absorbed me in has been my you know lifeline. No matter what happens, they can be-- I have friends from all different majors. But we all have the same common goals, common ideas, common experiences. And so that just group of support system. That's going to be the biggest thing I'm going to miss. Going to that family environment that Tech produces.
